The Thyroid Antithyroglobulin Antibody test is used to detect and confirm autoimmune thyroiditis, Hashimoto thyroiditis.
Must be used in conjunction with antimicrosomal test, since autoimmune thyroiditis may demonstrate a response to antigen other than thyroglobulin. Other autoimmune disorders such as Sjögren’s syndrome, SLE, RA, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, may be positive for thyroid antibodies, as may patients with myxedema, granulomatosis, thyroiditis, thyrotoxicosis, nontoxic nodular goiter, and thyroid carcinoma.
